Dear Friends,

Israel Yudkin fell in Gaza on May 22, 2024.

I will never forget the video Hamas released, showing how a cowardly Arab sniper marked him with an X and murdered him — because face to face, he would never have been able to defeat him.

Israel Yudkin was from my village, Kfar Chabad.

He was the same age as my children, so I did not know him personally. But his mother, Tzipi, was our neighbor and a friend of my older sister.

I remembered her from my childhood. And I thought of her again when I saw her at Israel’s funeral, promising that the Jewish people would never forget her Israel.

Israel was a fighter and a commander for the Jewish people. From October 7 onward, he was there, inside Gaza, doing what needed to be done. He did it wholeheartedly. He knew the risks. He lost friends and soldiers under his command. But like so many of his generation, he simply did what needed to be done.

His friends, young men from my village, established a synagogue in his memory. They called it “Ahavat Yisrael” — Love of Israel. And yes, the name says it all: their love for their Israel, and for Israel, who loved Am Yisrael — the Jewish people — and the Land of Israel.

The number of his friends coming there to pray keeps growing, but the place remains small and rather neglected. It was simply the space they were given, and that is how they began.

Now they want to renovate it a little: to create a proper space for the women, repair what is broken, and make the synagogue a place worthy of Israel’s memory. And in doing so, to help fulfill the promise his mother Tzipi made — that the Jewish people would not forget him.

My nephew, Avremi Wishedski, is among the founders and organizers, and now they need help.

I promised him I would help, and so I am turning to you.

Let us give them a hand. Israel did what needed to be done for the Jewish people. Now we will do what needs to be done for him.

They need approximately NIS 85,000 to complete the necessary work.
