Basel is a dynamic industrial city, rich in culture situated at the heart of Europe; approximately 2000 Jews live in and around Basel. The Jewish Community of Basel (IGB) was founded just over 200 years ago and is one of the largest in Switzerland. It offers all the necessary institutions and has a well-developed infrastructure. The IGB is unique in that its members include Jews of all religious backgrounds in what is known as a unitarian community (Einheitsgemeinde). It is run in accordance with the principles of the Halacha.
